Nanjing Museum
My first visit to Nanjing Museum, despite being a Nanjing local.

The weather was lovely, and the museum was fairly crowded.
Nanjing Museum has several galleries:
-
History Gallery
-
Digital Gallery
-
Republic of China Gallery
-
Art Gallery
-
Intangible Cultural Heritage Gallery
The History Gallery is the most traditional museum experience and also the most interesting.
History Gallery
The History Gallery traces the history of Jiangsu from prehistoric times to the period before the Republic of China.

A giant mammoth.

A tiny spoon that does not appear to have had any practical use.

A bronze vessel.

A bronze crossbow mechanism from the Western Han dynasty.
The gold-and-silver inlay technique embeds gold or silver wire into grooves cut into an object.

A bronze ox lamp, although it looks rather like a sheep.

A porcelain pillow from the Song dynasty. It looks rather high to sleep on directly.
A tea bowl with exquisite patterns.

A brick carving of a lion.

A replica of a horse’s head.

An imposing seat and screen, apparently decorated with enamel work.
Digital Gallery
Not very interesting—just a few digital videos that would be easier to watch at home.
Republic of China Gallery
Republic of China galleries everywhere seem to use this kind of interactive commercial street.
A locomotive model.
Intangible Cultural Heritage Gallery
This gallery introduces many forms of intangible cultural heritage and includes counters selling related products.
Art Gallery
More than half of the exhibition halls were closed, so I only saw a few.
Fu Baoshi: Paintings Inspired by Chairman Mao’s Poetry
The exhibition presented Fu Baoshi’s works inspired by Chairman Mao’s poems. Below is Still More Joyous Are the Thousand Li of Snow on Minshan.

Wu Weishan Sculpture Exhibition
The freehand-style sculptures were fascinating. The bronze sculpture of Lu Xun was especially concise and powerful.
This Laozi Leaving the Pass is particularly expressive.
Lotus-Themed Exhibition

Afterword
Many people were walking through the nearby ruins of the Ming Palace. The weather really was beautiful.
An older gentleman was practicing calligraphy.
